Printer is Printing Slowly? Here are 4 Quick Ways to Fix It

If your printer is printing slowly, there could be four possible reasons.

  • You have enabled the Quiet mode.
  • You have a piled up print queue.
  • The print quality is set to the highest (often happens with me 😜).
  • You have selected the incorrect paper type.

There’s nothing to worry as all these issues are fixable. Let’s see how to fix each of them now.

Disable Quiet Mode

Enabling the quiet mode on your printer allows it to print silently. But this comes at the cost of slow printing. Not nice, right?

So, check if you have enabled this mode and disable it.

  • Open Printing preferences of your printer from Windows Settings.
  • Then, disable the Quiet mode.

Clear the Print Queue

Should there be large number of print jobs pending in the print queue, you’ll experience slow printing.

Follow these steps to clear the print queue.

  1. Open CMD as an admin.
  2. Copy-paste these commands. Hit Enter key after each of them.
  3. net stop spooler
  4. del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers\* /Q
  5. net start spooler
  6. exit

Change the Print Quality

The higher the print quality you select the more ink the printer consumes and more time it takes for printing.

  • Set the print quality to low/average and it will do the job.
  • To do that, open Printing preferences and choose Draft quality in the print quality drop-down.

Set the Paper Type Correctly

When it comes to the printer papers, there are two important things you should remember.

  • First, make sure you are only using the papers that are compatible with your printer. Not any kind of fancy glossy papers.
  • Secondly, go to the Printing preferences and select exactly the paper that you have inserted in the printer.
  • Choosing Glossy in the paper type and inserting Plain paper in the printer won’t do the job. Please choose it correctly.
  • When this happens, your printer can even say out of papers despite having papers fully loaded in the tray. So, take care of it as well.
