We’ve all been there: you send a print command to your printer, but instead of printing, it just sits there—sleeping!
Ideally, printers should wake up at the moment you send the print command.
However, sometimes a glitch in the printer’s memory puts it in deep sleep mode, and the printer goes offline.
So, what can you do to fix it?
Of course! Either extend the sleep timer or turn it off completely.
After that, there’s no more going to the printer and pressing the Power button again and again to wake it up.
With that said, let’s see how to turn off sleep mode on Brother printer.
Use the Printing Preferences
Here’s how to use the Printing Preferences of your Brother printer to configure the sleep timer settings.
- Open Windows Settings and go to Printers & scanners settings.
- Choose your Brother printer.
- Then, open Printing Preferences.
- In general, the sleep mode setting is available under the Advanced tab > Other Print Options as you can see in the image below.
- If you don’t get it, rummage through other tabs to find the settings.
- This is the sleep settings on my Brother printer.
- Similarly, find yours and disable the “Enter sleep mode immediately after printing” option.
- Some models also let you to choose the exact sleep time. So, check and act accordingly.
Remember: Accessing the Printing Preferences settings of any printer requires you to install the printer driver beforehand. Or else, you can’t change these settings.
Use the Printer’s Web Page
This method is for you if you have the IP address of your printer readily available.
All you need to do is,
- Enter the printer’s IP address on your web browsers’ address bar and open it.
- It will load the printer’s webpage (generally referred to as Embedded Web Server of the printer).
- Go to Sleep Time Settings. You will normally find it under the General Settings.
- Choose your preferred sleep time and click Submit. That’s all.
