In our previous article, we discussed how to fix it when the printer is not printing in black.
And today, we will discuss what to do when the printer is not printing in color.
When this happens, the most likely reason is:
“You have enabled the Grayscale printing mode on Printing Preferences”
So, how to fix it?
Disable Grayscale Printing Mode
- Open Settings and go to Printers & scanners settings.
- Choose your printer name from the list.
- Then, Open Printing Preferences.
- On the next window that opens, go to Paper/Quality tab.
- In some printers, you need to go to the Advanced tab. While in some printers the setting is available under the Main/Quick Setup tab.
- Regardless, look for the Color Setting once you are on the Printing Preferences window.
- Then, turn off Grayscale printing (or, enable Color printing.)
- In some models of Canon printer like my MG2500 series, you can also select the cartridges that would be used for printing.
- Make sure you select Both Black and Color cartridges, if this setting is available on your printer.
Note: If you are unable to access Printing Preferences, you have to install printer driver first.
So, that’s all about how to fix when your printer is not printing in color.
But what if you are not getting colors despite printing in Color printing mode?
There’s still nothing to worry.
Go through my checklist below and you will be able to sort out the problem instantly.
Other Things to Check When Your Printer is Not Printing in Color
- Make sure you have correctly chosen the Paper Size and Paper Type in the Printing preferences of your printer.
- Check the ink levels on your printer and make sure none of the ink tank/ink cartridges have gone too low.
- Clean the printhead of your printer. Issues like printer not printing in color are highly possible if nozzles on the printhead of color ink cartridge get blocked.
- Fix the Printhead Alignment. This fixes the issue if you recently changed/replaced the cartridges and your printer stopped printing in color.
