How to Scan a Document on HP Printer

To scan a document on your HP printer, use any of these methods:

  • Windows Fax and Scan app (my all time favoritešŸ˜)
  • HP Assistant Tool
  • Or, the HP Smart app

But before you start to scan, you should know how to place the documents correctly on the scanner assembly.

Placing the Documents on the Scanner Assembly

Just remember these two things.

  1. If you have a single scanner bed on your printer, place the document facing it downside.
  2. However, if you have multiple documents and want to scan them simultaneously using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), face the document upside.

Scan a Document Using Windows Fax and Scan

Once you insert the papers properly in the scanner assembly, launch the Windows Fax and Scan app. Then,

  1. Go to File > New and choose Scan.
  2. Select your HP printer on the ā€œChoose a scannerā€ window and click OK.
  3. Make necessary adjustments as shown in the image below and click Scan.
  4. Make sure you correctly choose the scan source. Depending upon where you inserted your documents, choose Flatbed or Feeder.
  5. You will see a scanned copy of your document once the printer completes scanning.
  6. Click Save asā€¦ , rename the document and Save it.
  7. Thatā€™s all. Easy-peasy right?šŸ˜Œ

Scan a Document Using HP Assistant Tool

HP automatically installs the HP Assistant tool when you first install the printer driver on your computer.

Hereā€™s how to use it to scan your documents.

  1. First, launch the HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
  2. HP usually makes the shortcut for this tool on your desktop as you can see in the image below.
  3. However, if you donā€™t see it, use the Windows search feature to find it.
  4. Once you launch the tool, click the Scan menu.
  5. Click this option that says ā€œScan a Document or Photoā€
  6. On the new window, make necessary changes as required and click Scan.
  7. Double-click to open the scanned copy of your document.
  8. Again, if you want, you can make certain changes to your document like its size, orientation, brightness and contrast.
  9. Click Save and save your file to the desired location.

Scan a Document Using HP Smart

This method requires you to install HP Smart first. Then, you can follow these steps to scan a document using it.

  1. Launch the app.
  2. Click Scan.
  3. Sign up / Log in to your HP account.
  4. I know you will find this step boring. But sadly, you must be logged in to scan your documents using HP Smart.šŸ˜«
  5. Okay, once you are logged in, you will see the screen as shown in the image below. Click Scan.
  6. Wait until the scan completes.
  7. If you want to make any changes to your document like the size, filter or color profiles, tap the three dots button and choose Edit. Then, do the needful.
  8. Once you are done with making changes, Save it.

Well, thatā€™s all about scanning a document on your HP printer.

If thereā€™s any confusion, donā€™t hesitate to comment down below. If possible, also try to include your printer model.

I will reply to your query as soon as possible. Have a good day!šŸ˜„
