Days are gone when you had to use a CD/DVD drive to install the printer driver.
These days, you can directly install the printer driver from your printer manufacturer’s website.
All you have to do is:
- Go to the official website of your printer manufacturer first.
- Here are the links for Epson, Canon, Brother and HP.
- Then search for your printer model, download the driver setup file and proceed with the installation.
- I suggest you restart your printer once before installing the driver. I have several times faced issue when trying to install driver without a printer restart.
Pro Tip: What If the Printer Driver Fails to Detect the Printer?
If the setup file fails to detect your printer during the installation, here’s what you need to do.
I often do this whenever I face issues installing driver on my clients’ PCs and it easily resolves the problem.
- Go to Windows Settings > Printers & scanners.
- Click the Add device/printer/scanner button.
- Wait for a while and click Add manually or The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Choose the last option that says “Add a local printer…..”
- Choose the port. For instance, USB001 if it’s a wired printer, Standard TCP/IP if you added printer using the printer’s IP address.
- Choose the driver. It will generally be the same as the name of your printer.
- Replace the current driver and you are done.
Honestly, the whole process of installing the printer driver is really a piece of cake.
